Our Approach

The New World DAO is a constellation of carefully selected knowledge centers & initiatives which engage with the zeitgeist of the epoch. By bringing together pioneering intellectuals, creators, and stakeholders to collaborate, we seek not only to develop theoretical awareness, but also to implement desired outcomes through media and praxis, and learn through a feedback loop of experimentation.

Our developmental approach can be simply broken down via two aspects: (1) Method and (2) Strategy.

(1) Method

Our method is guided by both Transdisciplinarity and Mode 2 Knowledge Production.

Transdisciplinarity is a key method for an age which is inundated by a crisis of complexity - metacrisis. There has been no increase in complexity in the past millennia, only the human mind’s incapacity to understand has increased. Due to heightened degrees of specialization, disciplinarity, and the fragmentation of the subject, we have lost sight of the unity of phenomena, and the interconnected nature of the universe which is the wellspring of understanding.

Mode 2 Knowledge Production arises from the need for intellectual leadership to not be confined to the reclusion of the ivory tower or to institutions of knowledge which are not embedded in the contexts of life. Mode 2 Knowledge Production is about embedding scholarship, research and intellectual development in the contexts of our times.

(2) Strategy

As we detailed in our founding publication - Meditation on Metacrisis - the modern paradigm has arrived at a point of development which indicates deep inconsistencies with Earth System equilibria. This is why we don’t see our work at the New World DAO as beginning from the standpoint of a fixed logic, but that it is more like philosophy in process, much like the early stages of any new scientific paradigm. For this reason we consider ourselves to be more of a conducive medium for the synthesis of knowledge.

As a conducive medium, we want to cross-pollinate various ‘emergent agendas’ with a transmedia production. The intent here is multifold: (1) Create highly accessible and culturally embedded knowledge field for socioecological evolution (2) Learn what is meaningful by leveraging the “wisdom of the crowds” (3) cultivate a complex global network of new world nodes for content production, consumption, events, gatherings, and partnerships. Below are highlighted a few of our guiding thematics.

  • Ecology

    Ecology here means a few things. For instance, it is an awareness of the interconnected nature of life and matter. Furthermore, it is an integration of natural philosophy and modern natural science into subjects which are traditionally seen as alternative spheres of life (e.g. economics, culture, and lifestyle). This guiding thematic is intended to provide an integral and technical understanding of life in the Earth System and the Cosmos.

  • Spirituality

    Due to the impact of modern secularism, civilization has lost much of its spiritual heritage which was its carefully guarded inheritance. The outcomes of this are still unknown, although psychological & social malaise seem to be common symptoms. This guiding thematic is meant to explore & foster what spirituality means once again for the modern age.

  • Humanitas

    Humanitas, from the original Latin, the humanities have always been dedicated to the goal of uniting philanthropia (loving what makes us human) with paideia (education). It was originally the goal of the Humanities and the Liberal Arts to cultivate the human to be a moral agent capable civic engagement. This Knowledge Center is dedicated to the rejuvenation of the humanities, and the cultivation of moral agency.

  • Political-Economy

    After 3 long centuries of growth, development and progress, new questions require answering. With the metacrisis on hand, human society increasingly realizes the need for a post-material-growth economy, better leadership priorities, and improved stewardship intentions in all sectors. This guiding thematic asks at the least a single basic question: (a) how do our political-economic systems prioritize planetary flourishing.

  • The Planetary

    Due to ecological, technological, economic, geopolitical, and cultural reasons, we are entering planetary scale of awareness. This means that our previously localized global cultures are now achieving levels of global permeation never before seen. This guiding thematic is dedicated to facilitating the integration of a marvelously heterogenous transcultural fusion.

  • Lifestyle

    Lifestyle is perhaps the most difficult subject to question in a liberal era - is there a right way to live? While perhaps this most bold question doesn’t need to be answered in the present, the integration of anything we do into a lifestyle makes its arrival more permanent and integral. This guiding thematic invites us to ask, is the world we are creating truly meaningful?

Initiatives are the elements which build up the Knowledge Centers. Initiatives co-exist in an overlapping manner and are the emergent forces which manifest the unity of knowledge.

How It Works

An Initiative Is Formed

  • An Initiative is formed by the gathering of a transdisciplinary taskforce

  • Each of these individuals is a superstar in their own way, and together they form an A-Team

  • The individuals may be scholars, stakeholders, innovators, or thought leaders - all connected by the mutual appreciation of the work

Agile Management & Media Artifacts

  • The Initiative progresses at a predetermined rate coordinated by the group in the planning stage

  • At the end of every Sprint, each individual submits a media artifact related to the work they completed in the Sprint

  • These Media Artifacts are then edited & developed by the Core Media Team of NWM and released for the public

  • In this way, we create a journey of co-learning both within the Initiative and with the public

The Final Report

  • The Initiative is always progressing towards the production of its final report on the matter at hand

  • The Report is intended to not only be high fidelity research, but also to be published in a way beautiful way which stimulates resonance

  • This is then distributed through various marketing channels by the Media Team: Public Relations, Social Media, Website, and Word of Mouth

Implementation

  • The Final Report contains within it a series of recommendations for the implementation of the findings

  • These recommendations are then brought to relevant stakeholders with whom it can create meaning

  • These social impact modalities can include, media productions such as docuseries, the creation of a social technology, or the formation of a policy advocacy group

Multi-Initiative Overlapping

  • As more Initiatives begin to develop concomitantly, they will provide unique information to one another

  • Over time, these initiatives will fill out the multi-media ecology which is New World Media

  • The main goal with this is to provide a new approach to intellectual leadership which meets the requirements of our time, in alignment with the Zeitgeist of the ages.
